Elizabethton Real Estate

    Elizabethton real estate is located in Carter County, Tennessee. The city was founded in 1799; however it was not incorporated until 1905. With a population of 14,176, Elizabethton enjoys a central location within the Bristol, Johnson City and Kingsport, TN area, which is considered the Tri-Cities. Residents are served by Elizabethton City Schools. The city is an attractive option among those who purchase Elizabethton homes for sale partially due to the location. Highway 91 runs along the eastern side of the city and this is where the airport is located as well. In addition, Elizabethton is connected to larger shuttle, cargo and commercial flights at Tri-Cities Regional Airport.

    Elizabethton was known at one time as “The City of Power” due to the Wilbur Dam which is located nearby. The Wilbur Dam as well as two hydroelectric generating units were completed in 1912. Another unit for generating power was built in 1926 and another in 1945.
    The western border of Elizabethton is shared by Johnson City. A great deal of the downtown area of Elizabethton is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is an area that has a rich history and the architecture is noteworthy. There are many homes that were built from the late 18th century to the 1930s. The Elizabethton Covered Bridge is one of the well-known landmarks in the city.

    Residents of Elizabethton real estate have many recreational opportunities including festival and events that are held throughout the year. The Elizabethton Covered Bridge Days is an annual event held for a week each summer. With entertainment, craft vendors, food vendors, the Elk Avenue car show and kid-friendly activities, the festival is enjoyed by many. The Appalachian Trail crosses through Carter County just northeast of Elizabethton.

    Residents may enjoy whitewater rafting on the Bee Cliff Rapids. The Watauga River is on the western side of the city and provides one of two trophy streams for trout within the city. With a location within a river valley, surrounded by mountains and hills, many residents of Elizabethton real estate live in homes that include acreage. There are many single-family homes as well as some new construction. Many choose to buy acreage and have a custom home built surrounded by the beauty of this area. Many homes within the downtown area of Elizabethton are from the 1920s and have been remodeled.
