Greeneville Real Estate

    Greeneville real estate is located in Greene County, Tennessee. It is a town of approximately 15,198 and was named for Nathaniel Greene, a Revolutionary War hero. There are many towns across the U.S. with the name Greenville; however, Greeneville, Tennessee is the only one with this spelling. Greeneville was the capital of the State of Franklin – although short-lived in the 18th century – due to the area, which is today Jonesborough, being reclaimed by North Carolina.  Greeneville homes for sale are part of an area that has a rich history. Perhaps one of the most widely noted aspects of Greeneville is that it was the home of President Andrew Johnson.

    Andrew Johnson was a tailor in Greeneville before becoming an alderman and mayor of the town. He then went on to become a U.S. Senator, U.S. Vice President and the President of the United States. He lived in Greeneville most of his adult life. The area had many with strong Unionist views, which greatly influenced Johnson.

    The Andrew Johnson National Historic Site is located in Greenville and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is maintained by the National Park Service and includes two homes in which Andrew Johnson lived, his tailor shop and his grave site. The Andrew Johnson National Cemetery, the Andrew Johnson Visitor Complex and the Andrew Johnson Homestead are located on 16 acres. One of the homes is a Greek Revival two-story house where Johnson and his wife lived from 1869 to 1875.

    Residents of Greeneville real estate enjoy a strong economy. There are two major regional companies with headquarters here. Greenbank and Landair Corporation have offices as well as branches within the middle, east and western edge of the city. There are a number of recreational opportunities for residents. The Greene County Fair is an event recognized across the state and has received an award as Most Outstanding Fair in Tennessee.

    Residents of Greeneville real estate are served by the Greeneville City School System. There are four elementary schools, one middle and one high school with approximately 2750 students enrolled in the system. Greenville public schools have been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools for the past 44 years and maintain performance levels that are highly rated for the federal “No Child Left Behind” guidelines.
